The Alaska Reads Act incorporates a district reading intervention program:

  • Students in K-3 will be assessed three times yearly.
  • Students who are identified as below proficient will receive additional support through an individualized Reading Improvement Plan (IRIP).
  • The school and family in partnership will consider retaining students who do not show improvement. (Parents will make this decision).
  • After 3rd grade, students who do not show growth during the school year can attend a 20-hour summer reading program.
