The Juneau School District FY 14 budget process is underway. The Board of Education appointed the FY 14 Budget Committee at its regular meeting on January 8, 2013. This year, the Budget Committee has been expanded to increase the level of participation from the community. The committee has more than doubled, from seven community members to 17 voting members, including: 12 community members selected by each school site council; three at-large community members representing the needs of all students; one teacher selected by the Juneau Education Association; and one classified staff member selected by Juneau Education Support Staff.
In addition, the committee will include all seven school board members (plus the student representative) as non-voting members. School board member Barbara Thurston along with a community representative will jointly chair the committee.

The full committee will meet seven times, beginning in January 2013, to learn about the District budget, review proposals made by the Superintendent, and hear testimony from the community.

On March 5, 2013, the Budget Committee will make its own budget recommendation to the Board of Education. The Board then approves a final budget and submits it to the City and Borough of Juneau.

Suggestions received by January 22 will be considered in the development of the administration's budget proposal and then compilied anonomously into a document and provided to the full committee.
