Assessment

Trimester Report Card criteria:

Exceeds Expectation: Student satifactorily completes all in-class activities and homework assignments in a timely manner. If student is absent and in-class activity would not be appropriate to make-up (for example, lecture and discussion), student will need to select and complete any Optional Extension activity for each day missed, plus two Optional Extension activities per trimester.

Meets Expectation: Student satifactorily completes all* in-class activities and homework assignments in a timely manner. If student is absent and in-class activity would not be appropriate to make-up (for example, lecture and discussion), student will need to select and complete any Optional Extension activity for each day missed. *(Student permitted to miss one in-class activity OR homework assignment per trimester and still earn a Meets Expectation).

In Progress: Student completes in-class activities when present and some homework assignments.

Concerned With Progress: Student regularly does not attempt to complete in-class activities or homework assignments.


Students will be assessed on individual tasks according the the assessment criteria listed within the description of each task. Here is an example of a rubric we will use to assess student projects, and here is a rubric for assessing student writing. Here is an example of a rubric we will use to evaluate specific technical and communication skills.

Students are invited to contribute work to RiverZine, a student-produced electronic magazine. Students who submit accepted works (as determined by peer review of RiverZine staff) to RiverZine will have an individual portfolio page, linking out to all of their work.
