What is the JSD Extended Learning Parent Advisory Committee?
| The JSD ELPAC is a group of parents, administrators and teachers who meet once every month or two to discuss and give advise regarding the District's K-12 EL programs. Every five years, the District is required to revise it's EL plan of service, and ELPAC takes on the challenge of helping to shape that document. |
Why Participate in ELPAC?
| Participation in ELPAC affords parents a closer and long-term view of what the EL program has to offer their children, as well as the ability to help shape and support the program. It would be wonderful if Riverbend could consistently have one or more parents participating in ELPAC. |
Who is Eligible?
| Everyone is welcome at ELPAC. Some items may be more relevant to parents of students officially qualified as "Gifted", while other issues are relevant to both parents of official EL students and "long-term EL guests" (students who do not officially qualify for EL at this time, but are still participating in EL). |

What's the Latest Information from ELPAC?
| Dear EL Parents, teachers and administrators: Just a reminder that the first EL Parent Advisory Committee meeting of the year is tonight, Mendenhall River Elementary School library, 6 730 pm. Bernie Sorenson and Patti Bippus, JDHS and Thunder Mountain High School principals, will give a short presentation on the new high school academic plan and then will take questions and discuss the proposed plan with the EL parents. Some questions that have come up: 1) Will there still be a dedicated EL counselor at each high school as required by the 2007-12 EL Program Plan? 2) Will there still be early registration for AP and Advanced courses for EL students? 3) Will EL students be clustered in sections, classes and “academies” in accordance with the District’s EL Plan? 4) How many AP classes (and which ones) will be offered at each high school? Here is the link to the EL Plan and a few excerpts: http://www.jsd.k12.ak.us/newdistrict/departments/instructionalservices/curriculums/EL_Prog_Plan.pdf a) High School 1. Where can I get more information about ELPAC?
| Phil Loesby, EL Program coordinator, is the district contact for ELPAC. His phone number is 523-1721. Administrative assistant, Susan Arnold, has been coordinating logistics for ELPAC for a very long time, and probably answer any general or logistic questions you might have about ELPAC. |
