SEAFOM:  The Southeast Alaska Friends of Montessori is a nonprofit organization that supports Montessori education in Juneau Alaska.  SEAFOM’s activities and responsibilities include:

  • Fundraising
  • Helping to fund teachers' salaries
  • Funding teacher training
  • Aiding in purchasing classroom materials
  • Assisting in kindergarten scholarships
  • Facilitating the overall development of the Montessori community
  • Supporting special programs like Music, Art, Dance, Drama, and Foreign Language
  • Keeping the Juneau Montessori Communities connected
  • Juneau Montessori School:  JMS is a private preschool located in the historic Mayflower School in Douglas which operates programs for children ages 15 months through Kindergarten. Formed in 1985, this non-profit corporation is certified by the Association Montessori Internationale. While the school’s focus is to provide a rich educational experience, it also provides high quality before and after school care and is licensed as a daycare facility by the State of Alaska. 

    Kindergartners have the option of enrolling in the Juneau School District's HomeBridge program while attending JMS.

    The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) was founded in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori to maintain the integrity of her life's work, and to ensure that it would be perpetuated after her death. AMI's activities include:

  • Providing guidance for AMI training courses;
  • Coordinating a Training of Trainers program;
  • Guiding the manufacturers recognized by AMI in the production of approved Montessori materials;
  • Overseeing the publication of Dr. Montessori's books;
  • Organizing congresses and study conferences;
  • Affiliating Montessori Societies; and
  • Publishing the magazine 'Communications', the AMI Bulletin and a website.
