SPORTS/CLUB NEWS
JUNEAU YOUTH COURT is looking for volunteers - Are you looking for meaningful community service? Are you interested in learning about laws and how they can impact teens? Would you want to help a teen that has gotten into a tough situation? If so, you may want to become a Juneau Youth Court volunteer. Learn more - Come to the Youth Court office located in the JDHS library (front conference room 213A) at lunch on Tuesday, October 25 or Wednesday, October 26. Or stop by the Youth Court office any afternoon.?

October 24-28 is National Red Ribbon Week. This is to raise awareness to the damage drugs, tobacco, and alcohol bring to our Nation, States, and Local Communities. JDHS Student Counsel is sponsoring a pledge wall on Monday. Wednesday there will be a Drunk Goggle Relay Race with prizes awarded. Friday is playing Drug Prevention Bingo in the commons with prizes for winners! Thank you in advance for your participation!

PINK SLIPS for Volleyball, Swim/Dive, Wrestling, Hockey traveling Oct. 27-Nov. 9 may be picked up in the Activity Office Thursday 10/20- Monday 10/24. they are due to your coach Tuesday, 10/25.

Career Based Learning: Pick up Lime green quarterly evaluations outside of Room 100. Due 10/28. ?

TESTING
WORKKEYS test is Nov 8th for Juniors. All Juniors are required by State of Alaska to take the test.

SENIORS – PLAN FOR YOUR FUTURE – take the Workkeys test. Do you want to get a national Career Readiness Certificate which would give you a leg up on employability? Do you want to qualify for the technical portion of the Alaska Performance Scholarship? Workkeys For Seniors will be testing on November 9th. Please come to Counseling Office to sign up.?

Five more days until the PLAN test. 10th & 11th graders – you still have time to sign up in the Counseling Office. The test is Saturday 29th, check-in at 7:45 a.m. There will be a sign on the main school doors.

Online Colleges.org - Scholarship for Single Parents: A $10,000 scholarship will be awarded starting January 1st, 2012 to a single parent who is enrolled in an accredited online post-secondary institution. The scholarship will help pay for non-tuition related living expenses for the 2012 academic year that are not covered by the recipient’s current financial aid. Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) - Voice of democracy contest: The voice of Democracy is open to all students in grades 9 - 12. The VFW's "Voice of Democracy" Scholarship Contest is an annual nationwide audio essay competition. Application instructions are available online at: http://www.vfw.org/Community/Voice-of-Democracy/. The deadline for entry is midnight on Nov. 1, 2011.
