DESCRIPTION:The Juneau Public Health Center and the Juneau School District are working together to hold H1N1 (Swine Flu) Vaccination clinics for students in each of our public schools. The vaccinations are free and are highly recommended by the State of Alaska\, but are not a requirement for students.
 Permission slips are beginning to go out this week from schools and the first clinics are scheduled for the preschool programs housed in our elementary schools next week – October 21 and 22. We plan to begin holding clinics for kindergarten through fifth grade students the week of October 26. Once each elementary school has had one clinic\, the middle and high schools will follow. Children age six months through 9 years will require two doses\, at least one month apart. We anticipate giving the second dose only after offering one dose to all school age children.
 Students must have a signed permission slip to receive the vaccine. Due to the limited quantity of vaccinations\, they are being provided to priority populations. Children and adolescent is a priority group. We will not be providing vaccinations to school district staff or family members of school children. Children or adolescents who are in a high risk population and cannot receive the type of vaccine available at their school or feel a need to receive a vaccination earlier than the scheduled clinic in their school\, are encouraged to contact their private provider or public health.
 The school district will be communicating with families to confirm the dates and times for clinics at each school\, so parents will know when these clinics are scheduled to occur. Parents may also choose to be with their child when they are getting immunized. Currently\, only the nasal spray is available in Juneau\, but the shots will also be offered at school clinics as they become available.

DESCRIPTION:The sixth annual Arts for Kids Community Arts Celebration is Saturday\, February 6th at Thunder Mountain High in the School Commons from 1-4PM.
 Please join us for an afternoon of free\, wild and wonderful "make and take home" art projects.
 Demonstrating artists will be painting\, sculpting and making pottery\, wood carving\, portrait sketching\, along with 20 or more project tables for the kids to experience.
 There will be sweets\, fruit and cold drinks for sale.
 Rie Munoz prints will be available again for folks making contributions to Arts For Kids. 
 Artist that are working at the celebration may also have some of their art for sale. 20% of these proceeds go towards the Senior Art Scholarships!
 Bring your kids\, grandkids\, and/or your neighbors kids\, to celebrate the delight and wonder of Art with the children of Juneau and also celebrate the school districts efforts in delivering high quality art education to all our elementary children.

DESCRIPTION:The CHOICE juniors are sponsoring a carnival with games\, prizes\, and food.&nbsp\; If you have elementary-age children\, bring them! The goal of the annual junior service-learning project is to do something that benefits the community.&nbsp\; This year's junior class wanted something that would be fun for kids\, so they decided on a carnival.&nbsp\; The students participated in a car wash to raise money to fund the carnival. 
 In addition\, students looked at options for donating the money raised at the carnival itself.&nbsp\; The goals of the Taylor White Foundation (below) really resonated with&nbsp\; students\, so they decided it would be the recipient of the proceeds from the carnival.&nbsp\; We will have a donation jar in addition to actually donating the proceeds.&nbsp\; 
 Taylor White Foundation goals:In a desire for Taylor's death to be a force for good\, a foundation has been created that works toward building a community environment that better supports Juneau teens in healthy choices around high risk behaviors (including drugs and alcohol).
 The foundation envisions focusing in 3 areas:
 
 explore proactive measures that support current efforts to limit access to alcohol and drugs\;
 use current research on teen brains to support and create evidence-based education and awareness efforts that are relevant and meaningful to teens\; and
 develop activities and outlets for teenagers that are engaging\, exciting\, and challenging with acceptable risk.

DESCRIPTION:Parents for a Safe Graduation are organizing a drug-and-alcohol-free\, fun celebration for all graduating students on Monday\, May 31 from 10:00pm-2:10am at Centennial Hall.
