The Elementary Art Program Is a standards-based, place-based visual art program in the Juneau School District. The Art Specialist works with every elementary classroom in the district to teach students and support teachers. Lessons are created at each grade level which build skills and art knowledge as students grow. These lessons are modeled in the classroom by the specialist then created into "art kits" which the teachers can check out and teach on their own. Lessons can be extended by the teachers and the art techniques can be adapted to other curricular areas. This creates a program where visual art can integrate into the every day experience of a classroom and students become "art literate!"
