The Juneau School District and the Juneau Education Association (JEA) reached tentative agreement on a new two-year contract in a bargaining session Wednesday night. The two bargaining teams have been meeting to work out an agreement since January 14, 2013.
Full details of the agreement are being finalized. Those details will be made available to the membership of JEA early next week and a ratification vote will be held the following week. It is anticipated that the School Board will do the same shortly thereafter.
Sara Hannan, lead spokesperson for the JEA bargaining team, said, “We have worked through a lengthy process and are optimistic that our membership will ratify this Tentative Agreement. We look forward to returning our focus to the students that we work with.”
School Superintendent Glenn Gelbrich said, “We are very pleased to have this process nearly complete. I think both bargaining teams agree that it is a good settlement within the difficult budget challenges we are facing and that it will be great to once again be solely focused on helping our students succeed.”
