The Juneau School District has chosen Dan Larson as the new Principal for Thunder Mountain High School. Larson will make the move to Alaska from Nebraska where he is currently the principal of Culler Middle School in Lincoln.
“We are excited that Dan Larson has accepted our invitation to come to Juneau as Principal of Thunder Mountain High School,” reported Juneau Superintendent Glenn Gelbrich, “Mr. Larson has a demonstrated history of developing collaborative relationships and creating school environments that foster student success,” he added.
Larson’s appointment follows a national search for a principal for Juneau’s newest school. Larson was the front-runner coming out of the interview process and a site visit to his school in Lincoln last week confirmed his credentials for the job.
Larson’s current staff, parents, supervisors and students speak very highly of him and credit him with transforming their Title I School into a high performing school. He will lead TMHS into its third school year with a certificated teaching staff of about 42 and growing student body of nearly 650.
In addition to his middle school principal position, Larson has administrative experience as both a high school principal and associate principal. He has been a teacher, coach, school/community coordinator and vocational education coordinator.
Larson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Technology and Skilled & Technical Science from the University of Nebraska in Kearney, a Master of Science in Education Administration and Supervision from Creighton University, and is a Doctoratal Candidate in Educational Administration and Supervision at the Univeristiy of Nebraska at Lincoln.
