Juneau-Douglas High School Counselors begin the process of Course Requests for the 2010-2011 school year this week in the JDHS Library from 5 – 7 p.m.

Juneau, AK — Teachers and staff at the Juneau School District have chalked up a million bucks worth of good behavior. Their energy-efficient practices have earned big savings, and now are attracting national recognition.

The Juneau School District has achieved $1 million in cost savings in 30 months since forming a strategic alliance with Energy Education, a national energy conservation company, which will present its Energy Excellence Award during the School Board meeting tonight.

Juneau School District Board of Education President Mark Choate and member JoAnne Bell-Graves received certificates of award from the Alaska Association of School Boards for their achievements in Basic Boardsmanship at Tuesday’s school board meeting in Juneau. The two were recognized by AASB for their efforts in becoming effective board members, serving as public officials and making contributions to their district to improve student achievement. AASB provides training and guidance to school boards around Alaska to support students and improve public schools.

Student involvement in fine arts affects school climate, student’s relationships with teachers, and more significantly, connections between arts, learning and cognitive, social and personal development. Juneau-Douglas High School teacher Craig Mapes has received the Alaska Construction Academies Instructor Excellence Award for his work in the Architecture, Construction and Engineering program. The award was announced Thursday during the Alaska State Home Building Association Convention awards banquet in Juneau.
