The Juneau School District Budget Committee completed its work on next years budget and has sent a proposed FY 2011 budget, which begins July 1, 2010, to the Board of Education for their consideration.
The proposed budget balances the expected revenues of $79,164,005 with expenditures for the next fiscal year. Current revenues include $1,709,000 in stimulus funding which will end during the next budgeting cycle. The proposed budget maintains current pupil teacher ratios in schools, while supporting the recently adopted strategic plan intended to focus efforts and resources toward supporting and improving student achievement.
The Board of Education and the district administration have changed the way the budget is presented this year to make both the process and the budget itself more transparent and understandable to the community. Public meetings are providing a detailed overview of the district budget, proposals from the Superintendent, and opportunities for testimony from the community.
The Board of Education will begin its discussion of the budget at the next regular meeting March 2, 2010 at 6:15 pm in the Central Office Board Room. The Board then approves a final budget and submits it to the City and Borough of Juneau.
