Thunder Mountain High School Lockdown Update

On Thursday morning at approximately 10:00 am, Thunder Mountain High School received reports of a student with a handgun on school property. Thunder Mountain went into lockdown and the Juneau Police Department was notified.  It was determined that the student had left campus and JPD responded to the area. Nearby Riverbend Elementary School was put in lockdown as a precaution. Other schools in the area went into stay put mode so that no students were outside of school buildings. JPD located the student and secured the handgun. The student involved is being lodged at the Johnson Youth Center. Lockdown was lifted at about 10:40 am.

Students resumed their normal schedule and support will be available as needed to students.

Thank you to all the students and staff at TMHS for their cooperation, as well as to the Juneau Police Department for the quick response and resolution of the incident.
