Juneau Teachers and Community Partner Receive Awards for Outstanding Service by the Alaska Association for Career and Technical Education

Juneau School District teachers and a program partner were recognized by the Alaska Association for Career and Technical Education as 2013 outstanding teachers at their annual conference in Anchorage on October 30.

Colin Dukes, JDHS Woods and CAD Teacher received the Outstanding Industrial/Technology Teacher of the Year. He was recognized for his leadership in building a strong career and technical education program that is a model of applied learning showcasing literacy, math, and science skills in meaningful projects and instruction.

Kari Monagle, JDHS Health Sciences Teacher received the Outstanding Health Services Teacher of the Year award. She was recognized for her dedication to her students and their learning and building a strong program for students in the health sciences field. 

 

Patrick Roach, TMHS Culinary Teacher received the Outstanding New CTE Teacher of the Year award. He was recognized for his dedication to his craft and tireless resourcefulness..."from cooking to growing fresh herbs to making yogurt the natural way," and his creativity and ability to engage students.

Justin Fantasia, SAGA employee and JDHS House Build Program Construction Manager, received the Community Contribution award. For the past 5 school years, he has overseen every aspect of the construction of affordable houses for the program in partnership with the Juneau School District, SAGA, the Juneau Housing Trust and community partners. Justin has mentored students and helped them transition into the construction field following high school.
